Mongoose Lemur

Eulemur mongoz

Habitat: Their habitat includes dry deciduous forests and secondary forests.

Threats: The principle reason for the decline of the mongoose lemur is habitat loss, as dry-deciduous forests of the north-west continue to be cleared to create pasture and charcoal. Also the species is hunted for food and occasionally trapped for pet trade.

Information: They rely on their sense of smell as a way of communicating with other animals. They have special scent glands on their wrists and bottoms that leave scent trails on branches to mark their territories.

Range: The mongoose lemurs natural range is restricted to the north-west of Madagascar.
