Habitats: Lowland Paca’s are always found near water they prefer small fast streams to larger rivers. The species occurs in a wide range of forest types in moist areas where it builds its own burrow, or it can occupy that of another animal. Its diet is frugivorous and it is an important seed distributor.
Threats: This rodent is an important game animal throughout its range, and is frequently taken as bush meat.
Information: The Lowland Paca has thick strong legs. Their nails function as hooves and their tail is short and hairless. Being mostly nocturnal they do not vocalize much.
Range: This large rodent is found in forested habitats, from east Mexico south to Paraguay.
