Flamingo

Phoenicopterus ruber ruber

Range: The Caribbean Flamingo is found throughout the Caribbean including Cuba, the Bahamas and Southern Florida, the Galapagos Islands and the Northern coast of South America.

Habitat: Thousands of these birds live together in salt lakes, lagoons and mudflats.

Threats: Development, human disturbance and habitat loss threatens the wetlands on which the Caribbean Flamingo depends. Fortunately however, its population remains very large and is actually believed to be increasing overall.
