Here’s everything to help you plan your visit to South Lakes Safari Zoo

Get the most out of your wild day!

Get close and surround yourself in the planets rarest most endangered animals. Wander amongst kangaroos, wallabies, emus. Be amazed as free flying macaws soar overhead, interact with free roaming lemurs, squirrel monkeys, cotton topped tamarins, and if you are brave venture in with condors and vultures in the walk through aviary. Join the animal keepers for the conservation and feeding talks including big cat feeding every day and help hand feed giraffes , lemurs, penguins everyone gets a go!

Hand feeding Pass: Pass allows you to take part in hand feeding opportunities within the park on your day of visit these include Giraffe and Lemur feeding, plus a bag of special animal food for the kangaroos, wallabies, emus, birds, marmots and deer. £4£4£4

Terms & Conditions

* Free child places apply ONLY when FULL price adult/oap admission is paid and cannot be used in conjunction with any offer. Normal Child admission rate is £9.00. Anyone wishing to use Tesco or any vouchers for entrance cannot take advantage of the free child places.

Children must be supervised at all times and we permit a Maximum of 4 free child places per full paying adult.

365 tickets are valid for 365 days from date of purchase and allow unlimited entry during the valid period.

Note: Giraffe, penguin and lemur feedings are led by keepers, please do not feed unless a keeper is present and has given you the correct food.

TESCO VOUCHERS: Anyone wishing to use Tesco vouchers for entrance cannot take advantage of the free child places; you can pay the normal child admission rate using vouchers. Please note Tesco Reward Vouchers can only be used against admission they cannot be used to purchase 365 tickets, and are NOT accepted over a bank holiday weekend (which at Easter includes Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon). Please contact the park for clarification.

Talks & feedings will normally follow this timetable. Please check on arrival for any changes to the schedule.

11:15AM – Snake Encounter
To be held outside Savannahs.
11:30AM – Vulture Talk & Feeding
In the Illescas Vulture aviary located as you enter the zoo, near the lions in Carnivore Country.
11:50AM – Andean Bears & Howler Monkey
Talk & Feeding will start at the bear enclosure within the World Safari Area, followed by meet the animals of the Worldwide Safari.
12:10PM – Amazing Macaw Encounter
In the Tambopata Amazonas aviary located at the top right of the zoo.
12:30PM – Meet the Meerkats
Just outside the Tambopata Amazonas Aviary.
12:45PM – Lemur Talk & Feeding (W)
Hand feed our free roaming lemurs in the interactive animal area below the Tambopata aviary.
1:15PM – Maned Wolves & Giant Otters
At the Otter enclosure in the centre of the zoo.
1:30PM – Rhinos
On the field at the bottom left of the zoo, if no rhinos are on the field then head to the hardstand/rhino house.
1:45PM – Giraffes Talk & Feeding (W)
Join the keepers for a talk & hand feed the giraffes. On the field at the bottom right of the park, if its wet in the giraffe house.
2:15PM – Primates & Red Panda Talk
Meet at the primate house, beyond the vulture aviary.
2:30PM – Tiger Feeding
Watch our big cats hunt for the their lunch at the Way Kambas Tiger Reserve along the Safari Zoo railway line.
2:50PM – Penguins Feeding & Flamingo Talk £1 Per Person
A keeper will meet you at the Penguin enclosure.
3:15PM – Giraffe Feeding (W)
Join the keepers to hand feed the giraffes. On the field at the bottom right of the park, if its wet in the giraffe house.
3:45PM – Big Cat Feeding & Talk
Carnivore County area
Monday – Snow Leopards
Tuesday – Jaguars
Wednesday – Sri Lankan Leopards
Thursday – Jaguars
Friday – Snow Leopards
Sataurday – Jaguars / Lions
Sunday – Sri Lanken Leopards
4:15PM – Giraffe Feeding (W)
Join the keepers to hand feed the giraffes. On the field at the bottom right of the park, if its wet in the giraffe house.
All Day – Hand feed animals in the World Wide Safari!
Bags of food can be purchased from the Maki Restaurant & Gift Shop.
*All inclusive wristbands can be purchased on arrival or from the gift shop entitle you to join in the lemur and one giraffe feeding. A bag of animal food is avaliable on arrival for purchase to feed the animals of the Worldwide Safari.

The bag mix can feed all the following animals.

ONLY to be fed to the above animals in the Interactive Worldwide Safari zone.

Feeding our animals is entirely at your own risk, Safari Zoo accepts no responsibility for any injury or damage to any personal effect inccurred whilst doing so. Caution this product may contain nuts.

HELP CONSERVE:
Visit our designated area with gifts and toys from all over the world – the proceeds from which support communities and help save habitats and species in the wild. Help build a water well in Africa, rescue bears in Peru, rehabilitate monkeys and release them back to the wild in Colombia – by choosing a gift or souvenir from our projects and programmes all over the world you will joining the team that makes a difference!

2Restaurant & refreshments


T
ake a break from exploring and drop into our Maki Restaurant for a delicious bite to eat. Enjoy your meal on the “treetops” style decking where you can watch Rhinos, Giraffes, baboons.

During peak months a refreshment kiosk serving ice creams, cold drinks, hot dogs and snacks is situated by the primate house and an Ice cream kiosk serving ice creams is situated on the outside of the restaurant.

3Mini Train

Ride the miniature steam train, every penny goes to help saving Sumatran Tigers in the wild.

Picnic areas

You will find indoor and outdoor covered picnic areas throughout the park. TIP: The picnic area by the lions is often quiet even at the busiest of times. Please note we ask you not to feed any of our animals any of your food, offenders will be asked to leave the park.

Free Car parking

During busy periods car parking staff will be on hand to guide you to a space. Come earlier during holidays to ensure a nearer space. Coaches, minibuses or motor homes are welcome however must be pre book. Disabled parking bays are available near the entrance.

Extensive baby changing facilities are available.

Disabled Facilities: The park is accessible for wheelchair users, with lots of vantage and viewing points, animal interactions and specially designed walkways and toilet facilities. Being based in Cumbria the park does have natural inclines, additional help may be needed on departing the park and down to the snow leopards but any of our staff are always happy to help – just ask.

We hope the contents of these pages help you in planning a trip to South Lakes Safari Zoo we cannot however vouch for the experience you will have except for your time in the park – which will be truly amazing! The nearest travelodge is found in Barrow in Furness just 4 miles away there are also a selection of hotels in Dalton itself. Just 20 minutes from Lake Windermere there is also plenty to keep you busy if you are planning a longer stay in the area.

GIRAFFE ENCOUNTER

Am amazing memorable encounter with our herd of giraffes. Join the Zoo Keepers to hand feed our Giraffes every single day of the week! Our specially designed walkways put you eye to eye to the worlds tallest mammal – an experience you will absolutely never forget! Purchase a hand feed wristband on arrival.

BIG CAT FEEDING

Watch in awe as our big cats - lions, tigers, jaguars and snow leopards hunt for their dinner. Get up close, a whisker away from some of the most worlds most endangered hunters. The future of these animals is hanging int he balance join our keepers at feeding time to learn what you can do to make a difference.

ANIMAL INTERACTION AREA

Hang out with Free Roaming Monkeys. Get close and interact with free roaming animals in our walk through natural areas. Come face to face with Squirrel monkeys, over 100 lemurs – including Ring tailed Lemurs, Red Ruffed Lemurs, Black and White Ruffed Lemurs, Black Lemurs, White Fronted Brown Lemurs; Cotton topped tamarins all living wild in the trees. Round the corner and bump into kangaroos, wallabies, and hundreds of bird species all walking (or hopping) amongst you.

Go walkabouts with the wallaby’s.. Wander through the natural areas of the park and discover what’s lurking around the corner as you come face to face with free roaming kangaroos, wallabies, deer, prairie marmots, storks, ibis and not forgetting emus… Don’t forget your bag of kangaroo food purchased from the cafe or gift shop for a g’day.

Walk through where Vultures & Condors fly free Venture into the winged world of the aviary where King Vultures, Turkey Vultures, Black Vultures, Andean Condors fly free. Find yourself up close to a variety of colorful feathered friends as Roseate Spoonbills, Macaws, Scarlet Ibis…fly around you free.

GIRAFFE ENCOUNTER

AFRICAN SAFARI

Set off on the trail of hippos, baboons, lions, fennec foxes, ... journey to the African plains home to our herds of rhinos, giraffes and troop of baboons. Stop off at the watering hole – Maki Restaurant and sit and relax on the outside terrace watching "Africa" beneath you.
