Please Note: Admission to Safari Zoo is only available from our new entrance at Melton Terrace. Any purchased Safari Zoo wristbands must be put on at the Trading Post Admissions building to continue on from the Trading Post grounds into Safari Zoo. Access to The Trading Post family centre is always FREE.

About Safari Zoo

Safari Zoo is a natural park with over 1100 animals. Walk around and interact with some of the rarest, most endangered animals in unique natural environments which enable the visitor to get as close as physically possible to  experience the sights, sounds, and a few smells, of these amazing creatures we share our planet with.

Public transport from Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston, Dalton-in-Furness Train Station or even Kendal. The X6 & 6 both stop at our new entrance bus stop “Melton Top – Lindal-in-Furness”  You’ll see a pedestrian path from the bus stop which takes you right to our park entrance. For return you will need “Bankers Corner – Dalton-in-Furness”. There are roughly 4 buses an hour. The full timetable is available HERE ts-awesome-arrow-circle-o-down

The nearest railway station is Dalton-in-Furness (DLT)” A bus or Taxi can be taken right to our entrance from here or you can walk the short 25min walk shown here

Searching for South Lakes Safari Zoo / South Lakes Wild Animal Park may take you past our new entrance road. If your GPS doesn’t locate Melton Terrace please try our staff only entrance address taking note of the instructions beneath to turn off at the correct junction.

Coming from the M6, Follow the brown zoo signs along the A590 & turn at the sign for Marton. Do not continue into Dalton-in-Furness.

11:00AM – Vulture Talk & Feeding
In the Illescas Vulture aviary located as you enter the zoo, near the lions in Carnivore Country.
11:30AM – Giraffe Talk & Feeding
Join the keepers for a talk & hand feed the giraffes opposite Carnivore County. Talks are not held at the Entrance Africa field. If the field is wet join the keepers in the Giraffe House.
1:45PM – Giraffes & Camel Talk & Feeding (W)
Join the keepers for a talk & hand feed the giraffes & camels opposite Carnivore County. Talks are not held at the Entrance Africa field. If the field is wet join the keepers in the Giraffe House.
2:30PM – Tiger Feeding
Watch our big cats hunt for the their lunch at the Way Kambas Tiger Reserve along the Safari Zoo railway line.
2:50PM – Penguins Feeding & Flamingo Talk £1 Per Person
A keeper will meet you at the Penguin enclosure.  Pay keepers at the feeding to feed a Penguin.
3:45PM – Giraffes Talk & Feeding (W)

All Day – Hand feed animals in the World Wide Safari!
Bags of food can be purchased from the Maki Restaurant & Gift Shop.
*Winter wristbands can be purchased on arrival or from the gift shop to entitle you to join in a camel feeding, one giraffe feeding & reindeer feeding and . A bag of animal food is available on arrival for purchase to feed the animals of the Worldwide Safari.

£1 Penguin Feeding Per Person


£1.50 Animal Feed Bag Per Bag

The bag mix can feed all the following animals.

• Kangaroos
• Wallabies
• Emus
• Peacocks
• Ducks
• Geese
• Swans

ONLY to be fed to the above animals in the Interactive Worldwide Safari zone.

Feeding our animals is entirely at your own risk, Safari Zoo accepts no responsibility for any injury or damage to any personal effect incurred whilst doing so. Caution this product may contain nuts.

  • Savanna’s Take Away – Grab a snack while your children use the adventure playground.
  • Outdoor and covered picnic areas opposite the Adventure Playground. It is recommended food isn’t taken past this point to prevent inconvenience entering interactive animal feeding areas. Visitors can exit to the car park at any time to collect/drop off any picnic items for convenience. We ask you not to feed any of our animals any of your food, offenders will be asked to leave the park.
  • Baby change facilities across the park.
  • Convenient quick to reach toilets in multiple animal zones.
  • Adventure playground (Max age 15 years)

Visitor Information

  • Free Parking.
  • Disabled Parking.
  • The park is wheelchair accessible. Some newly added additional pathways to features are currently gravel based, if this is of concern there are alternative tarmaced routes to their destinations. Please ask a member of staff for route advice if there is any concern. Note. The bottom entrance to the Rhino house does contain a small set of stairs, The top Rhino house entrance is wheelchair friendly.
  • Unfortunately we do not have facilities available for wheelchair or mobility scooter hire.
  • No Smoking/E-Cigarettes in the park.
  • No Dogs allowed in the park. Crossgates Kennels is available just 4 min drive from Safari Zoo. 01229 463435
  • No  unattended children in the park. (Proof of age may be asked for younger visitors)
  • Please use the recycling points around the park for the safety of our animals.
  • Visitors must follow the interactive feeding safety advice signage. Full H & S Rules.
