As few as 2,500 Red Pandas remain in the wild today, that’s a 50% population decline within the last 2 decades. Red Panda Network created the first Community-based Monitoring Program of Red Pandas and their habitats. The program trains and employs people from local communities as Forest Guardians to monitor Red Panda populations and habitats throughout the year, reporting population information to biologists and field staff, providing data to support the implementation of conservation programs and aid in the evaluation of program effectiveness. The community-based approach enables the value of the forest as a long-term sustainable benefit to be protected, rather than a source of immediate income, to be realised and supported.
