On the 24th February we were joined by the gorgeous sunshine for train-mad James’ 4th birthday party. We met all James’ friends at 11am, excited and ready to party. James’ mum had told us how much James loved trains so to make his day extra special, James and his friends were treated to a VIP ride on our train, as we got faster all the children’s smiles got bigger and bigger, we all had a go at making train noises, even the adults joined in!
The train delivered us to the Africa House, ready to start our exciting tour with Kim our head keeper. There was just the party on the tour, James and his friends were treated like the VIPs they are, with extra special treats for the birthday boy himself as he got to go with Keeper Kim to meet baby rhino Mosi and even gave her a tickle!
We fed the penguins with some stinky fish;
We fed the Lemurs, they were soooo cute, especially with their stripey tails:
And we fed the Giraffes, they were so friendly, we couldn’t believe how long their tongues were!
Our bellies were rumbling now, so we headed to the Maki Restaurant for our party tea. How exciting it was when we walked in and there was a table there, just for us, with balloons and everything! There was even a train with James’ name on, which he loved!
We settled everyone putting James right in the middle then told them to dig in.
There was so much food! We had sausage rolls, chicken nuggets, mini pizzas, ham and cheese sandwiches, crisps, little sausages and animal cupcakes for everyone.
We were all stuffed with food, so that only meant one thing, time for the super-duper cake complete with 4 candles……James loves chocolate cake and that’s what he got. It was delivered to the table and everyone was singing Happy Birthday at the top of their voices, James loved it!
James blew out all the candles and we hip hip hoorayed! Rukiya, our special mascot was waiting in the wings, excited to meet James.
Rukiya the Rhino (her name means ‘she rises high’) charged in, struggling under the weight of the party bags and gifts, and headed straight for James! James’ little face lit up, he jumped up and gave him a massive hug. All James friends and the adults all joined in giving hugs and getting photos with Rukiya as they received their party bag. There was even a special birthday present for James!
James and his friends had a truly magical day, he took his gifts, party bags, helium balloons and his home made train banner home with him so he could remember his 4th birthday party at the zoo for ever. In James’s words on the way home in the car and again at home “mummy that was the best party ever thank you”.
