Diurnal (active during the day), though they have been seen outside of their burrows at night. The yellow mongoose is endemic to and widely distributed throughout Southern Africa, with high populations in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The yellow mongoose is primarily a insectivorous carnivore, though they routinely take advantage of various other food sources. Feeds primarily on insects and other small invertebrates. They will also eat lizards, snakes, birds, turtle and bird eggs, and small rodents.
