Good morning followers and happy International Tiger Day to you all!

International Tiger Day is celebrated annually to raise awareness of the plight of the tiger and support conservation efforts.

Tigers are on the brink of extinction with less than 4,000 remaining in the wild.  The tigers here at Safari Zoo are critically endangered Sumatran Tigers – latest figures estimate between 350 and 400 of these beautiful animals remain in the wild.  Essentially if we were to lose one a day these guys would be extinct by this time next year.

Here, Safari Zoo Senior Keeper Gavin tells us more about the plight of the Sumatran Tiger, the role played by palm oil and what we, as consumers, can do to help conserve this beautiful species.
