The Alpaca is found in the Andes of southern Peru, western Bolivia, north-western Argentina, and northern Chile. It inhabits mountainous areas at altitudes above 3,200 metres, where it grazes on short and tough vegetation. The climate is dry and hot during the day but cold at night. Alpaca must live near water due to their daily water demands. The alpaca is a domesticate animal from South America.  There are 3.5million alpacas in South America kept in herds.  Habitat loss, mining and pollution of water sources, pose a threat to Alpacas.
